1. Former Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez is struggling in 2022.

We’re going to set the personal issues aside and just focus on baseball, but it should be stated that Eduardo Rodriguez is currently away from his Detroit Tigers teammates after being placed on the restricted list to deal with a personal matter.

But just looking at his stat sheet is enough to see that the left-hander is struggling mightily since making the move to the Motor City. Rodriguez is 1-3 with a 4.38 ERA and 1.333 WHIP. The southpaw cashed in with a five-year/$77M contract this past offseason.

Not only is Rodriguez not having success, but neither is his new team. The Detroit Tigers are arguably one of the biggest disappointments in 2022. After adding Rodriguez and Javier Baez along with the ascension of some of the team’s top prospects, Detroit was the trending pick to emerge as a contender for a spot in the postseason.

That pipe dream has fallen by the wayside. Rodriguez has been away from the team since mid-June and there’s no timetable for his return. With only 34 punch outs in 39 innings of work, Detroit has to be wondering what they signed up for.
