Yankees: 3 trade targets from Baltimore Orioles that could be instant boosts to the clubhouse
One of the weaker positions for the New York Yankees is left field, as Joey Gallo as he has struggled to hit more than ever before. In 63 games, he has hit .165/.276/.330 with an OPS+ of 75, or a total offensive production that is 25 percent below league average.
Offensively, Baltimore Orioles first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini has hit .279/.355/.420 with an OPS+ of 123, or 23 percent above league average.
Trey Mancini hasn’t played left field too often for the Baltimore Orioles in 2022 but he has played a handful of games out there but they could utilize him in a few ways.
When he plays first base, Anthony Rizzo (who has been New York’s worst defensive player with -4 Defensive Runs Saved) could be the DH and either Giancarlo Stanton or Aaron Hicks could play left field. If Mancini played right field, Aaron Judge could play center field and Hicks in left and if Mancini played left field, Hicks could play center and Judge would slide over to right field.
Mancini has a mutual option for $10 million for next season but if either the club or Mancini declines it, he would get a $1 million buyout and become a free agent. With having little control, he shouldn’t cost the Yankees a ton to get him.
