One of the bigger weaknesses for the Boston Red Sox has been their outfield offense. Entering play on Saturday, the Red Sox outfielders have a wRC+ of 90, or 10 percent below league average, which is 24th in baseball.

The Red Sox have also not had very good offensive production at first base. Red Sox first basemen have an 82 wRC+, which is 27th in baseball. Baltimore Orioles first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini could help in both areas.

On the season, Mancini has played in 69 games and he has hit .279/.355/.420 with an OPS+ of 122.

Long term, the Red Sox plan on using Triston Casas (MLB.com’s #14 overall prospect) at first base and he could even be ready later this season since he is playing well at Triple-A. But Trey Mancini is could be a free agent at the end of the season (he has a $10 million mutual option for 2023) and if they call Casas up in 2022, Mancini could play one of the corner outfield positions.
