Baker Mayfield can’t wait to get revenge on Browns
By Mark Powell
New Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield can’t wait to get his revenge on the Cleveland Browns after they traded him.
The teams play Week 1, so he won’t have to wait long.
While Mayfield said all the right things when he was waiting for said trade, now that he’s a member of the Panthers, he’s excited to lead his new team against his former teammates. A 1-0 start would be the cherry on top.
“I’m not going to sit here and be a robot and tell you that’s not one I’ve marked on the calendar already,” Mayfield said, per the Panthers official website. “One, that’s not who I am. To me, it’s about winning games. Whoever we have marked on the schedule, I’m going to try to win. Obviously, this one has a little more history and personal meaning, but for me, it’s about winning and setting the tone for the rest of the year, and however I can help this team do that, I’m going to do.”
Baker Mayfield excited for revenge against Browns
These are the same Browns who claimed they were moving on from Mayfield because they wanted an ‘adult in the room’. They then proceeded to trade for a man with over 20 civil suits against him for sexual misconduct.
Cleveland’s hypocritical nature through all of this was met with class from Mayfield, something few of us would’ve anticipated before his eventual departure. Baker grew up a lot as a Brown, but he was never deemed good enough to take the franchise to its ultimate goal — a Super Bowl.
Still, should the Browns be so cocky? The franchise as a whole has long been a league laughing stock. Say what you want about Mayfield, he’s already a top-5 QB in team history, and it’s not all that close.
Deshaun Watson may be more talented, yes, but his civil disputes are embarrassing and downright deplorable. Baker’s outbursts are nothing in comparison, and he has every right to be a little upset.
We’ll see if he can get revenge in a few months time.
