6) MLB trade deadline candidate: Frankie Montas

Frankie Montas is a big name available at this year’s MLB trade deadline. With a year of control stretching beyond 2022, he’s someone the Oakland Athletics could always hold onto and deal away in the offseason to far more teams than they could right now.

Montas is the kind of pitcher whose win-loss record won’t matter at the MLB trade deadline. Teams that have an interest want him because of what he can do on the field. While last season was only his first to pass 100 innings, he remains a hot candidate to get dealt. Oakland should be able to get a nice haul for him. Expect someone like the Boston Red Sox or even New York Yankees to aggressively pursue.

5) MLB trade deadline candidate: David Robertson

Need a closer? David Robertson is your MLB trade deadline answer. One of the best resumes available this summer, Robertson has proven plenty as a member of the Chicago Cubs. This is a Cubs team bound to sell off a couple of pieces including their scratch-off they gave the closer spot at the beginning of the season.

The number of trade destinations for Robertson is pretty vast. Do the Braves or Phillies consider him an answer at the closer spot? What about a reunion with the Yankees? Robertson is a greater MLB trade deadline candidate because of his obvious availability. David Bednar would cost too much. Daniel Bard isn’t quite there with Robertson but would be a nice backup plan for those who don’t get him.
