Frank Ragnow departs Detroit Lions and improves Minnesota Vikings at center

While we will get to the Green Bay Packers’ player of choice next, the candidate coming off the Detroit Lions might be just as easy. Detroit has a sneaky-good roster for a team that won 3.5 games a year ago. Though the Lions might be good enough to double their win-total from a year before, it is going to be awfully hard for them to do that without Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow.

Of the handful of weaknesses on the Vikings’ roster, their glaring need for an upgrade at the center position is an obvious one. While Garrett Bradbury was an excellent player collegiately at North Carolina State, Minnesota did not extend the fifth-year option to him this offseason for a reason. If he has one more underwhelming season for the Vikings, he will be a free agent in 2023.

Ragnow was an absolute beast playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks, so it was only a matter of time before he really found his footing in the NFL. His growth and development at the professional level will play a huge part in the Lions’ ability to evolve beyond being a lovable loser under one-of-a-kind head coach Dan Campbell. Ragnow would provide the toughness the Vikings are in need of.

This move would make the Lions worse, but adding Ragnow will definitely make Minnesota better.
