Cardinals trade rumors: Colorado Rockies reliever Alex Colomé

Trading a major league player might give Colorado Rockies’ fans PTSD considering that they have traded both future Hall of Famer Larry Walker and (likely) future Hall of Famer Nolan Arenado to the St. Louis Cardinals. But trading Alex Colomé is a bit of a smaller scale and, unlike Arenado, it won’t be for the better part of a decade.

Colomé has primarily been a setup man on the season as he made 36 appearances on the season with an ERA of 2.86 (165 ERA+) with four saves. His 2.62 FIP actually suggests that he has had a little bit of bad luck on the season. His hit rate is a bit high (9.9 hits per nine innings) but he has average only 2.9 walks per nine innings, which is a good rate.

He also has a ground-ball rate of 54.9 percent on the season, which would be great considering how great the Cardinals defense is with Arenado, Tommy Edman, Paul Goldschmidt, and others.

Next. 3 prospects St. Louis would have to sell in any Juan Soto trade. dark
