Red Sox trade rumors: Texas Rangers SP Martín Pérez

Like Chris Sale, Martín Pérez is a left-handed starting pitcher but unlike the other two starters on our list, Pérez has actually played with the Boston Red Sox in the past. That familiarity could help a trade come to fruition.

This season, Pérez is 7-2 with a 2.68 ERA in 18 starts. He has a 146 ERA+, a 3.14 FIP, a 1.189 WHIP, and an average of 2.4 walks and 7.7 strikeouts per nine innings. Like Castillo, Pérez is an All-Star.

Pérez was with the Red Sox in 2020 and 2021 but didn’t see as much success. In the two seasons, he had a 10-13 record with a 4.65 ERA in 48 games (34 starts). He had a 102 ERA+, 4.84 FIP, a 1.449 WHIP, and an average of 3.3 walks and 7.3 strikeouts per nine innings.

The Rangers signed him for a one-year, $4 million deal so he would be a relatively cheap rental for the Red Sox to fill in for Chris Sale.
