In only his second start of the 2022 season, Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale suffered a broken pinky on a comebacker. Here are some trade targets that could replace him.

In only his 11th start in the last three seasons, Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale suffered yet another injury. He suffered a broken pinky finger on his throwing hand in the first inning of his start against the New York Yankees.

As a result, he will be out for an unknown period of time but he will definitely be missing a few weeks, at minimum.

The trade deadline is coming up in about two weeks, meaning that the Red Sox could trade for somebody to replace Sale. Here are the three trade targets that they should look at.

Red Sox trade rumors: Cincinnati Reds SP Luis Castillo should be a target

Of all of the starting pitchers on the trade market, Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo might be the best.

In 13 starts, Castillo has a 2.77 ERA with a 166 ERA+, a 3.03 FIP, a WHIP of 1.077, and an average of 3.1 walks and 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings. He is also an All-Star this year.

In the last three seasons, he has had an ERA+ of 130 with 32 starts, 12 starts (2020 season), and 33 starts in each season.

He is still arbitration-eligible for 2023 before becoming a free agent so Castillo would easily slot into their starting rotation next season as well. But with the extra year of control, he will take a bit more of a return in a trade.
