Juan Soto rumors: White Sox could trade Yoelqui Cespedes

A familiar name could help get the job done. Yoelqui is the younger brother of two-time All-Star Yoenis Cespedes. As the No. 4 prospect in Chicago’s system, he’s also more than just name recognition.

Yoelqui is MLB-ready, and 24 years old. He could be called up right away and provide some power from the right side of the plate. Any concerns around Cespedes have to do with his high strikeout rate, but scouts quickly forget about that due to his plus-plus power. Even after a two-year layoff, Cespedes reported to Double-A and hit .284 with eight doubles and 18 steals.

Cespedes is a threat on the basepaths and in most trade packages would be deemed untouchable. However, Soto is not most players.

Yoelqui may never live up to his brother’s name, but he doesn’t have to. The younger Cespedes is faster than his older brother ever was. If he can gain some plate discipline, he has all the makings of a longstanding big leaguer.
