Look, it is not ideal to trade away an arm in the starting rotation, considering Boston’s already hammered with injuries. But, pitchers are in demand at the trade deadline. When it comes to Boston’s best starter, it is Nathan Eovaldi.

Putting aside the disastrous July 22 game against the Blue Jays, Eovaldi has been relatively solid for Boston. Through 14 starts, Eovaldi recorded a 4.30 ERA, a 1.235 WHIP, 79 strikeouts, and 14 walks in 75.1 innings of work.

To make a deep run in the postseason, having as many options in the pitching rotation. The Red Sox know this all too well, as they acquired Eovaldi in 2018, and he had a memorable performance in the World Series that year.

If Luis Castillo and Frankie Montas are moved to new teams, those that missed out on them would certainly look at other options like Eovaldi. Plus, like Martinez, Eovaldi is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent.
