Yankees Rumors: 3 trade chips New York can turn into trade deadline steals

New York Yankees trade target on the Marlins: Steven Okert
If not Bass, Steven Okert would be a bullpen arm for the Yankees to target. We’d have to trust what they see between the two. This is the same organization that somehow managed to see great things for Clay Holmes at last year’s trade deadline.
Okert is a lefty who has managed to give the Marlins a 2.14 ERA in 33.2 innings. An awesome strikeout rate of 11.5 per 9 innings of work, he does have some control issues. His walk rate is at 4.3 per 9 innings at the start of action on Wednesday.
However, Okert doesn’t give up very many hits. He has a 1.01 WHIP on the year.
More so than Bass, Okert is someone who has been steadily performing at a high level in the majors. He was 3-1 with a 2.75 ERA in 36 innings for Miami last year.
As far as splits go, righties have slashed .141/.274/.310 against him in 85 plate appearances. Meanwhile, lefties have been held to a .170/.291/.277 slash line. To put it another way: he has been excellent against both.
A trade for Okert would feel minor but if paired with someone like Lopez, it suddenly feels a lot more complete. The Yankees will need to decide if that’s a pairing they’d like to bring to the Bronx.
