Seahawks: DK Metcalf highlights 3 unsolved training camp problems
The quarterback situation
The Seahawks went from having one of the best quarterback situations in the league, to arguably the worst.
No offense to Drew Lock and Geno Smith but neither comes close to franchise quarterback status.
Both have losing records as starters. Both have sub-60 percent completion percentages in their career. Both have sub-80 passer ratings for their career.
They haven’t made a move to get a more proven passer just yet. Maybe they’re waiting for Jimmy Garapolo, who could eventually be released by the 49ers. Maybe they’re content to go into the season with paltry quarterback options.
It doesn’t really matter which one wins the starting job. It’s clear the QB position will be a lingering problem for the team if they don’t do something.
The offensive line rebuild
Then again, Seattle could have Tom Brady behind center and they might still have a problem on their hand. The offensive line is a question mark unto itself.
Pro Football Focus named the Seahawks projected starting lineup the worst in the NFL this year.
Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas are set to start at the tackle spots. That’s two rookies, the No. 9 and No. 72 picks in the draft, filling two of the most important positions on the field. They could have all the potential in the world and this could still turn into a disaster for them by throwing them into the fire so quickly.
It’s especially concerning because they’re Air Raid products from Mississippi State and Washington State. Adjusting to the pro game will have to take time.
It would be less of an issue if the interior line could be relied upon, but it’s not like Gabe Jackson, Austin Blythe and Damien Lewis were road graders last year.
