The 49ers have finally granted Jimmy Garoppolo permission to seek a trade and these three teams should make their move for the quarterback.

It was generally assumed that the San Francisco 49ers would be quick to trade quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason. That, however, has not been the way things have transpired.

Garoppolo underwent offseason surgery on his throwing shoulder that led to the franchise taking it slow with his recovery and, as such, causing his trade market to simmer. But now that many of the dominoes at quarterback (if not all but Jimmy G) have fallen, they are willing to make their move.

As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday, the 49ers have told Jimmy Garoppolo’s agents that they have permission to seek a trade for the quarterback. With training camps set to begin soon, it’s likely that teams will move quickly to get a deal done so they can get the veteran in the building.

With that in mind, these three teams should be eager to make the call on Garoppolo.

3. Jimmy Garoppolo trade rumors: Seahawks need a veteran at QB

Perhaps the worst-kept secret in the NFL right now is that the Seattle Seahawks should not be confident in what they’re about to trot out at quarterback for the 2022 season. After the Russell Wilson trade, the franchise was left with Drew Lock and Geno Smith as their two primary options, neither of whom exactly have a proven track record of success as a starter.

Seattle was long-rumored to be in the mix to land Baker Mayfield from the Browns but ended up not going in that direction. Now they are left saying that they are confident in the Lock-Smith combo, even though any football fan knows that a front office in its right mind would never believe such a farce.

The tricky part, however, would be that luring Garoppolo away from the 49ers would mean that San Francisco would be trading the quarterback within the NFC West. As such, that would likely mean that the Seahawks would have to pay a premium if they wanted to make a deal since you have to assume the Niners would prefer not trading him to another team in the division.

Even still, it’s an avenue that the Seahawks should explore. They need a reliable option at quarterback and, while imperfect, Garoppolo has proven he can be that.
