3. The Yankees trade for an old friend: David Robertson

Especially if they trade Aroldis Chapman away, the Yankees will need some help in the bullpen. Michael King was just placed on the IL and is done for the year. Miguel Castro won’t be throwing a baseball for at least two more weeks so he likely won’t return to games until late August or early September, barring that nothing goes wrong with his recovery from a shoulder injury.

In parts of nine seasons with the Yankees (2008-14, 2017-18), he made 501 appearances with an ERA of 2.75. He also was an All-Star and received AL Cy Young Award and AL MVP votes in 2011. That season, he made 70 appearances as a setup man for Mariano Rivera with a 1.08 ERA. He also had a 1.84 FIP and he averaged 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

This year, he has appeared in 35 games with 14 saves and he has an ERA of 1.83. He also has a 3.25 FIP, a 0.992 WHIP, and an average of 4.3 walks and 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings.

He would just be a rental this year but he has a good resume with the Yankees and in the postseason (3.11 ERA in 33 postseason games).
