St. Louis Cardinals trade for Colorado Rockies closer Daniel Bard

The Colorado Rockies are entertaining offers for their impending free agents and one of them is their closer Daniel Bard.

Bard has appeared in 37 games thus far on the season with 21 saves. He has a 1.91 ERA but he has had a bit of a high walk rate (4.5 BB/9). That’s why his FIP is a bit higher (3.55) but he has a good WHIP (1.035) and a great strikeout rate (10.3 K/9).

For the Cardinals, their primary closer on the season has been Giovanny Gallegos (10 saves) but he has also blown six saves. Even All-Star Ryan Helsley, who has nine saves, has three blown saves. With Bard, he has blown two saves in 23 opportunities.

With being a free agent at the end of the season, he shouldn’t take a ton to get but he would be a more proven closer for the Cardinals in their stretch run.
