5 bold St. Louis Cardinals trade deadline predictions that don’t involve Juan Soto
The St. Louis Cardinals could pull off some surprises before the trade deadline
The St. Louis Cardinals are middling just above .500 as they currently are tied for the third and final NL Wild Card spot with a record of 53-47 through 100 games. With that, though, there are plenty of areas that they need to address, partially due to a slew of injuries.
They currently have eight players on the injured list and most of them were supposed to be big contributors for the team.
Here are five surprises that the Cardinals could pull off before the MLB Trade Deadline.

St. Louis Cardinals trade for Detroit Tigers reliever Andrew Chafin
One of the Cardinals’ biggest issues is the lack of a consistent left-handed reliever. T.J. McFarland has had an awful season. In 27 games, he has a 6.60 ERA (4.99 FIP).
Génesis Cabrera has had a good season overall but he has a) had a lot of good luck and b) been a bit erratic. In his last seven games (7.1 innings), he has walked seven, has an ERA of 4.91, and a FIP of 5.99 (suggesting that good luck). Overall, his 4.77 FIP is nearly double that of his ERA (2.60).
For Andrew Chafin, he has made 37 appearances on the season with a 2.53 ERA (156 ERA+). He also has a 2.22 FIP, a 1.063 WHIP, and an average of 2.8 walks and 11 strikeouts per nine innings. He has a player option for 2023 so if the Cardinals traded for him, they could have him for next year too.
