St. Louis Cardinals trade for Colorado Rockies shortstop José Iglesias

The Cardinals are also in need of a true shortstop and José Iglesias is one of the better shortstops on the trade market. Like Bard, he is one of Colorado’s impending free agents so they could look to trade him to a contender.

He is hitting .303/.345/.404 with an OPS+ of 100. He also has three home runs, 36 RBI, and 22 doubles. With him at shortstop, the Cardinals could use Tommy Edman at second base, where he is best defensively, or in right field as they did in 2021.

In the outfield, the Cardinals have had numerous injuries as, at one point or another, all three of Tyler O’Neill, Harrison Bader, and Dylan Carlson have been on the injured list. Currently, it is just Bader (who has an injured foot and will be in a walking boot for a week or two) but both O’Neill and Bader are below league average offensively. None of the trio have played in more than 81 of the team’s 100 games.
