Ian Happ trade rumors: Ranking 4 teams connected with Cubs star
2. Toronto Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays have one of the best offensive teams in baseball. Their 116 OPS+ was second-best in the American League entering Sunday. But they’ve got one big problem: nearly their entire starting lineup is right-handed.
That’s why they are interested in Ian Happ, who is a switch-hitter. Interestingly though, Happ has been a much better hitter right-handed on the season. In 312 plate appearances left-handed, he’s hitting .256/.346/.415. In 89 plate appearances right-handed, he’s hitting .346/.405/.506.
The Blue Jays also have a spot in the lineup to put Happ since they haven’t had a permanent designated hitter. They have had three players with at least 20 games at DH and they are All-Star catcher Alejandro Kirk (30 games), first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (21 games), and outfielder George Springer (21 games).
Most likely, Happ and Springer would split time between center field and DH.
