2. The Cubs could sign Twins shortstop Carlos Correa.

Carlos Correa was looking to sign a massive, record-breaking deal last offseason. He may have overplayed his hand a bit, and while Correa still landed a huge deal with the Minnesota Twins, the contract didn’t offer the long-term security he was rumored to be looking for.

Will Jed Hoyer and the Chicago Cubs give Correa that humongous payout this offseason? It all depends on whether or not Correa opts out of his current deal with the Minnesota Twins. Correa signed a three-year contract that allows the shortstop to opt out after both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Correa hasn’t posted the type of numbers we’re used to seeing from the two-time All-Star, but everyone throughout the league knows what type of player Carlos Correa is. He’s also still just 27 years old and has several strong years ahead of him.

Will the Cubs go all-in and sign Carlos Correa to a big-time contract? We’ll have to see what the Twins do during the postseason. If Minnesota makes a serious run at the American League pennant, perhaps Correa returns to the Twin Cities. On the other hand, if he shows out during the playoffs, Correa could look to cash in on his performance.
