3 Braves players who won’t be on the roster by September 1

3) Braves roster spot for Bryce Elder is very temporary
A lot of the kids have been recently promoted by the Braves. Vaughn Grissom’s arrival is exciting while Bryce Elder’s return to the major leagues isn’t quite as anticipated. That’s because when Elder has seen action, he was just 1-3 with a 5.48 ERA prior to his recent promotion.
Expectations for Elder’s future may have waned a bit because of the unimpressive first few innings from him early this year. Let’s remember: not everyone starts off firing on all cylinders.
Elder’s role with the 2022 Braves is to provide them with depth both in the starting rotation and bullpen. Unfortunately, it’ll probably be more of the latter as his time in Triple-A wasn’t so successful either.
In 15 starts with the Gwinnett Stripers, Elder was 6-4 with a 4.65 ERA. This isn’t what Atlanta had hoped for from a prospect who soared up the farm last year in his first professional season. Maybe taking a step back will be best for him to ultimately succeed. Or, perhaps, getting the growing pains out of the way now will work.
Most likely, Elder ends up back on the farm. Only an injury can change this. The Braves have been getting hurt a lot lately so before he plans to head back to Gwinnett, Atlanta will need to take stock of the health of each pitcher.
