Chiefs who earned a roster spot: Isiah Pacheco

Pacheco was a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft, but you wouldn’t know it given he’s taking some snaps with the first-team offense.

Reid and Co. want to use Pacheco in as many ways as possible. He could get looks in special teams, the backfield and even flanked out as a wide receiver if things work out that way. Despite being a seventh rounder, it would be a shock if Pacheco didn’t make some noise in the backfield behind Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Jerick McKinnon.

Pacheco is a name to watch moving forward for a number of reasons. Even if he doesn’t unseat McKinnon as the No. 2 running back, Kansas City can be creative with the ways they employ him.

Reid was impressed enough with Pacheco’s debut, in which he notched just 11 total yards on offense but got plenty of time with the first, second and third teams.

“I thought he ran hard and played fast,” Reid said. “He didn’t look like he shied down from anything. Pretty accurate with the things that he did, so I thought he did a nice job. He is one of the young guys that I was happy had a chance to play.”

We still have a long way to go, but expect Brett Veach to hold onto Pacheco in some way, shape or form.
