Chiefs who earned a roster spot: Nick Allegretti

Allegretti was never really in question, but he is in the final year of his contract AND is a backup. But listen here — he’s going to make the roster for one very valuable reason.

The Chiefs need players to protect Mahomes. Veach values that more than anything at this juncture, and it’s tough to blame him. Mahomes is Kansas City’s most valuable asset.

What makes Allegretti most valuable is that he can play pretty much any position on the offensive line. On Saturday, Allegretti played with the first, second and third-team offense, and he did so at three different positions.

That’s impressive, and it shows that Allegretti is willing to dow whatever it takes to make the roster. Good teams need players like that. It’s a long season.

Chiefs Wire summed up Allegretti’s day as ‘interesting’, but in reality, it makes him more of an asset than most players fighting for a roster spot:

"“Nick Allegretti had an interesting day. He might be the only player who got snaps with the starters (extra blocker eligible receiver), the second-team (guard) and the third-team offense (center).”"

While Kansas City’s line struggled some as a whole, it’s not on Allegretti. Somehow, someway, the Chiefs will find room for him on the roster.
