Steelers surprise cuts: RB Benny Snell

Snell was drafted out of Kentucky to be a bruiser at the running back position, and has shown glimpses of that. But all too often he’s stopped at the line of scrimmage and simply cannot get his lower body moving.

Snell is too much of a north-south runner to have success behind such an inexperienced offensive line. He could be a solid contributor in a different system, but for now Pittsburgh needs runners of a similar ilk to Najee Harris, who can use a patient approach and find blocks as they develop.

Snell was not that. Expect Harris, Anthony McFarland and perhaps Jaylen Warren to round out the running back ground. The Steelers have had a number of surprise contributors at the position this preseason, making Snell expendable. McFarland has impressed, as well, cementing himself as the backup for now.
