The Florida State Seminoles have not experienced much success since Jimbo Fisher bolted to lead the Texas A&M Aggies program. Willie Taggart did not last long at Florida State. So ahead of the 2020 season, the Seminoles football program looked to Memphis and pried away head coach Mike Norvell.

Coaching the Tigers, Norvell carried a 38-16 record and led the team to a bowl game in each of his four years (all of which were losses). Not to mention that Memphis did not have a losing record in all of his seasons at the helm.

Leading the Seminoles in his first year, the team went 3-6. This past season was no better, as they did finish with a 5-7 record. However, they did pick up a win over the rival Miami Hurricanes.

This offseason, Norvell seemingly was about to get the top recruit in the entire 2022 class in defensive back Travis Hunter. That was the case entering the first day of the early signing period. However, Hunter committed to Jackson State to play under head coach Deion Sanders.

Simply put, Norvell was hired to lead Florida State back to its winning ways. A third straight losing season could mean Norvell is out as head coach.
