Toasty Buns: 5 college football coaches on hot seat entering 2022

Even though the 2022 college football season has yet to begin, these five head coaches are already on the hot seat.

The college football season has begun. For fans of the top programs in the nation, they fully expect their team to be in contention for the National Championship or a bowl game at worst.

After the 2021 season, there was turnover in the head coaching ranks. There were plenty of top sideline bosses to move to new schools, such as Lincoln Riley, Brian Kelly, and Mario Cristobal. But there are coaches that remain for the start of the 2022 season, but their jobs are far from secure.

If things go badly enough for their respective teams, these five coaches could be on their way out of their programs.

5. Geoff Collins, Georgia Tech

After 11 years with the program, Paul Johnson announced his retirement as Georgia Tech head coach in 2018. The university then tabbed Geoff Collins, former Temple head coach, as their new sideline boss. Collins had a 15-10 record in his two years leading the Owls, including a win in the Gasparilla Bowl in 2017.

Collins has not brought much success to the Yellow Jackets. In fact, he only led the team to three wins per season in his first three years at the helm. That is far from the ideal start to his tenure, especially since Georgia Tech had been a mainstay in bowl games this century. Johnson had only two seasons where the team had not made it to a bowl game. Collins has three campaigns like that already.

Make no mistake about it, another underwhelming season for Collins could very well lead to his dismissal.
