The Florida Gators began their season with a huge upset win over the No. 7 Utah Utes on a clutch defensive stand.
The Florida Gators started off the Billy Napier era in dramatic fashion. Not only are they undefeated to start the season, but they were able to pull off a huge upset win over a top 10-ranked team.
Utah and Florida traded the lead multiple times in the second half. The Utes took a late 26-22 lead on a four-yard touchdown run by Tavion Thomas. On the ensuing drive, Gators quarterback Anthony Richardson led the offense 75 yards down the field, ending with him scoring on a one-yard run to take the 29-26 lead.
The Utes looked to be on the verge of at least tying the game, as they were at the Gators’ own six-yard line. Yet, Cameron Rising attempted a pass to tight end Dalton Kincaid, but Florida defensive back Amari Burney picked it off to secure the victory.

I love Utah, but you don't bet a Pac-12 team as a road favorite against an SEC team.

Richardson shined in Florida’s victory, completing 17-of-24 pass attempts for 168 yards while running for 104 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries.
Rising had himself quite the game as well, throwing for 216 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while completing 22-of-32 of his pass attempts while picking up 90 yards on seven carries.
This was quite the way for Napier to pick up his first win as head coach of the Gators. Now, they will look to carry this momentum into next week’s matchup (Sept. 10) against the Kentucky Wildcats, where we will see Richardson battle against Will Levis.
As for Utah, they will seek their first win of the season against Southern Utah next week.
