2) Yankees should sit Aaron Hicks more regularly

There are a couple of advantages to sitting Aaron Hicks. One is that the grind of seeing him waste another at-bat won’t occur as frequently. The other is that it allows the Yankees to shift their outfield a little bit differently. Aaron Judge is playing a lot of center field right now mainly because Hicks is no longer reliable at the position. Remove Hicks from the equation and Judge can go back to right field. A lesser hitter goes into center field and left field is occupied any number of players on the roster.

Miguel Andujar or Marwin Gonzalez would be two choices. A right-handed hitter and a switch hitter, Andujar has spent most of the year in Triple-A while Gonzalez has been a bench player for the 2022 Yankees. Unlike Matt Carpenter who joined the team and became a beast at the plate, Gonzalez’s time has been troubling.

Maybe what he needs is some more shifts in the field. Gonzalez has certainly lost the faith of fans. However, it’s hard to believe he could be any worse than Hicks at the plate.

There are two arguments to make in how the Yankees should structure their roster and the lineup from those pieces. One says to keep trying whatever they can until something works. The other is to find some consistency. The former has been a theme throughout the year. In this great time of need, try something else but stick with it for a few days.
