3 Braves players who shouldn’t sniff the postseason roster

2) The Braves postseason roster doesn’t have room for Kirby Yates

Who remembered Kirby Yates was even a member of the Braves? Signed to a two-year deal by Atlanta back in November of 2021, he has worked his way back from Tommy John Surgery and is looking to have an impact on the 2022 club.

Unfortunately for him, the Braves have more than enough capable and proven arms to charge into the postseason with. The team’s relievers don’t get nearly enough credit for how good they have been this year. They have more than enough quality arms right now to leave Yates out of the picture.

Things haven’t gone so well for Yates to begin his career with the Braves. Having missed all of the 2021 season and now only 6 innings deep into the 2022 campaign, he has already given up four earned runs, a pair of home runs, and issued four walks. It’s kind of amazing for him to even have just a 6.00 ERA after such a lackluster performance back from a lengthy IL stint.

For Yates, proving he can be healthy is what the 2022 mission should be. He can be useful for the Braves down the stretch even if he is left off the postseason roster. Someone has to eat up innings. And if he can turn things around, he should have a spot at the table for next year.
