Yankees who won’t be on the Roster October 1: Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks

Aaron Hicks is yet another Yankees outfielder that has been suboptimal this year and, for Hicks, he has a big sample size and he has been even worse recently.

On the season, he has played in 117 games (408 plate appearances) and he has hit .209/.324/.293 with a 79 OPS+. Since July 10, he has no home runs and only 10 RBI in 43 games. He is hitting .152/.262/.168 in that span.

Defensively, he’s not been great either (0 DRS). He doesn’t have minor league options but seeing that his playing time has been cut in half recently (he has started 22 games in the club’s last 40), the Yankees have recognized that he isn’t pulling his weight and needs to be on his way out.

Hicks was even pulled from a game after two poor defensive plays recently.

The aforementioned Anthony Rizzo will be returning soon, as will DJ LeMahieu. Even with changing two outfielders out for two infielders (at least for our purposes), the club has other outfielders that have been better or could be better on their current roster, there are other infielders that they have that can play the outfield.

But there’s another outfielder that may not be on the team in two weeks.
