1. Botched interception call that ended Texas Tech comeback bid

Now, let’s get to what may have been the worst call of the weekend.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders were looking to build off the momentum they gained after defeating the Texas Longhorns in overtime the week prior. However, they were facing a Kansas State Wildcats team that had an upset victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in Week 4.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Red Raiders trailed 37-28 but appeared on the verge of a comeback attempt. But when quarterback Donovan Smith hiked the ball and attempted a pass, a whistle was blown, which would call the play dead. As that happened, Smith’s pass was intercepted by cornerback Julius Brents.

Even though the whistle was blown, referees determined that the interception still stood.

After the game, Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire was not pleased. McGuire said he did not want to comment on the play, as he could get fined by the Big 12.

Safe to say, Texas Tech fans are going to be thinking about this one all week.
