Pick Analysis. HC. 1.. 58. Scouting Report. Washington Commanders. Ron Rivera. player

The NFC East is one fo the most ridiculed divisions in the NFL. In 2020, a team won the division title with a 7-9 record. That was the now-Washington Commanders, coached by Ron Rivera in his first year as the team’s sideline boss. That division title has been the highlight of his tenure thus far.

Washington made it to the playoffs in 2020 due in part to their dominant and stifling defense. After that, they could not replicate that success and actually took a dip, ranking 11th worst in total defense (359.3 yards allowed per game). It also did not help that the team had no legitimate answer at the quarterback position that year.

In 2022, the Commanders sit firmly in last place in the division with a 1-3 record. The Philadelphia Eagles are undefeated and may very well be the best team in football. The Dallas Cowboys have gone 3-0 since quarterback Cooper Rush started in place of an injured Dak Prescott. The New York Giants are 3-1 on the year, as first-year head coach Brian Daboll is getting the most out of his roster on game days.

Washington’s lone win came against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Since then, they were decisively beaten by the Detroit Lions in Week 2, the Eagles in Week 3, and the Cowboys in Week 4.

There is time to turn things around, but the Commanders not having a single winning record under Rivera is eye-opening. In all seriousness, it is more likely that there will be changes made to Rivera’s coaching staff than the team moving on from him.
