Pick Analysis. Nathaniel Hackett. player. 45. Scouting Report. HC. Denver Broncos. 2.

The Nathaniel Hackett era got off to the most confusing of starts for Denver Broncos fans.

In his very first game, he opted to go for a 64 yard field goal instead of letting star quarterback Russell Wilson convert a fourth-and-five situation late in the fourth quarter against the Seattle Seahawks. That was a decision that he admitted was the wrong one after the fact.

Yet, the Broncos won their next two games. The first was against the Houston Texans, in a game where fans in Denver actually counted down the play clock for Hackett. After that contest, Hackett hired Jerry Rosburg to assist him on game management decisions. Not ideal news to hear two weeks into a head coach’s first year.

Then in the second game, the Broncos somehow managed to defeat the San Francisco 49ers 11-10. To be realistic here, Jimmy Garoppolo stepping out of bounds in the back of San Francisco’s own end zone for a safety really had a huge factor in the final score.

Now, in Week 4, Hackett lost to a winless Las Vegas Raiders game by the score of 32-23.

The Broncos were supposed to be a competitive team in the AFC West. They have the talent on offense to do so. All they needed was a quarterback, which they got in Wilson this offseason. But the fact that Denver’s offense is not putting up insane yardage totals and points under Hackett, who was a praised offensive coordinator in his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Green bay Packers, is concerning.
