3 Toronto Blue Jays who won’t be back and where they’ll go
3) Blue Jays outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. – Philadelphia Phillies
The only other free agent that the Blue Jays have is outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. He has always been a light-hitting outfielder who has been best on defense.
The Blue Jays signed him to help in the defensive department as they had plenty of offense in the outfield (Lourdes Gurriel Jr., George Springer, Teoscar Hernandez) but were light on the defense, particularly with the latter two.
So, the Blue Jays signed him mid-season from the Red Sox after they got rid of him and Bradley, despite only playing in 40 games for the Blue Jays, he was their second-best defensive outfielder behind Gurriel Jr.
This offseason, one team that would be a perfect fit for Bradley Jr. is the Philadelphia Phillies. They have some great bats (or once great bats) in their outfield/DH (Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos, Brandon Marsh) but they are lacking in defense.
Their -31 DRS in the outfield this season was third-worst in the sport. Bradley Jr. also has a personal connection with the Phillies. Phillies President Dave Dombrowski was the President of the Red Sox from 2015 through 2019, when Bradley was with the club in his first tenure.
