Packers trade rumors: Brian Burns

Green Bay doesn’t necessarily have a tremendous need at the pass-rusher position, but if Burns if available, why not take a shot?

Burns made the Pro Bowl last season and is a free agent after the 2023 campaign. He’ll require a franchise tag or new contract at some point — but that’s a headache for down the road. Dealing for Burns gives Green Bay a championship-caliber pass rush.

Getting to the quarterback more often won’t completely solve the Packers offensive woes, but it does help matters. A better push to the quarterback means more sacks, pressures, turnovers and possessions for Green Bay’s offense. Statistically, it’s likely that pays off eventually.

Lombardi Avenue’s Freddie Boston outlined what Burns would bring to the Packers:

"“Burns is a star pass rusher. He has 29.5 sacks in a little over three seasons, and already has four in the opening five games in 2022, along with six quarterback hits. Green Bay has an excellent starting duo in Rashan Gary and Preston Smith, but the backup edge rushers have offered little so far this season. Add in Burns, and the Packers would have one of the league’s most dominant edge-rush trios in football.”"

Super Bowls are won with great quarterback play and a solid pass rush. Acquiring Burns would give the Packers just that.
