Packers trade rumors: Chase Claypool

As we said, the majority of Packers trade rumors circulating involve wide receivers. While they could just sign Odell Beckham Jr., he is fresh off major knee surgery. Chase Claypool of the Pittsburgh Steelers doesn’t have the same pedigree, but has flashed potential and could really use a fresh start.

Claypool has fallen out of favor with the Steelers coaching staff. The former second-round product out of Notre Dame hasn’t improved much since his rookie season, but he remains a legitimate downfield threat and a good blocker when he puts his mind to it. In a Packers system more predicated on the running game by the week, Claypool could be an easy quick fix.

Bill Barnwell proposed a recent trade sending Claypool to the Packers, and it got our wheels spinning. Essentially, the Packers would send a fourth-round pick and Amari Rodgers to the Steelers for Claypool and a seventh-round pick. So, Green Bay wouldn’t lose out on too much draft capital and would open up a spot for Claypool.

FanSided’s Josh Wilson outlined how this trade would benefit Green Bay:

"“The Packers get a clear No. 1 receiver out of the deal and send Amari Rodgers to the Steelers. Rodgers, drafted in 2021, fits the Steelers’ timeline a lot better than the third-year Claypool. They also get a fourth-round pick in the deal in exchange for a seventh which will help them infuse some more young talent.”"

If the Packers want to mix things up on the outside, they have an opportunity to do so with Claypool.
