Miami message boards have the worst takes during loss to Duke
By John Buhler
Miami football fans were in rare form during the crushing home loss to Duke on Saturday.
While Duke is one win away from achieving bowl eligibility under first-year head coach Mike Elko, Miami is now 3-4 under first-year head coach and former Hurricanes offensive lineman Mario Cristobal.
The Blue Devils cleaned the Canes’ clock in Miami Gardens on Saturday afternoon, 45-21. Duke is now 5-3 and needing only one more win to get that crucial sixth victory. Their best shots are to beat Boston College in Chestnut Hill in two weeks or at home vs. Virginia Tech in three. After that, winning on the road at Pittsburgh could be hard and hosting Wake Forest will be insanely difficult.
As for Miami, some fans are happy that quarterback Tyler Van Dyke got hurt in this game and gave way to Jake Garcia…

Miami fans are so out on this sorry team after Canes lost at home to Duke
You look at who Miami has beaten (Bethune-Cookman, Southern Miss, Virginia Tech) and then you look at who the Canes have lost to (Texas A&M, Middle Tennessee State, North Carolina, Duke) and see what the issue is. This team stinks! They do not do much of anything well, as this looks to be a most miserable rebuilding process under Cristobal. Things were so much better under Manny Diaz.
At this point, for Miami to achieve bowl eligibility, Van Dyke, Garcia or whoever starts under center will have to win at Virginia and at Georgia Tech, as well as steal a game at home vs. Florida State, at Clemson and at home vs. Pitt. UVA is not very good, but Tech has some sting to it. Then again, the Bumble Bees just handed the Hoos a victory Reggie Ball style for everyone to see on Thursday.
Not saying Miami is for sure going to lose all of its remaining games, but they 100 percent are not winning them all either. At this point, 6-6 has to be the goal going forward for Miami. Even if they go 5-7, you can work with that in theory. Should the Canes be 4-8 or worse, I’m just going to put it out there into the ether … Miami may have hired its own version of Scott Frost in Mario Cristobal…
For the love of corn, the Frosty Boys, The U and South Florida, may Miami win some damn games!
