Heisman Trophy Power Rankings: Bo Nix trying to crash C.J. Stroud, Hendon Hooker’s party
By Scott Rogust
Hendon Hooker may have had his Heisman moment last week in Tennessee’s epic win over Alabama. Even though he is second on the power rankings, the competition for the Heisman award is a lot closer now.
Facing off against UT Martin, Hooker helped guide Tennessee to what was an expected, easy victory.
Hooker was pulled from the game after halftime, as they did have a 52-7 lead. During his two quarters played, Hooker recorded 18 completions for 276 yards and three touchdowns on 24 attempts. Hooker also ran for 28 yards on four carries.
If Hooker keeps up at this pace, he could very well win the Heisman, but with a little bit of help from who holds the No. 1 spot on this week’s rankings.
This was far from the greatest performance from C.J. Stroud.
Two weeks after he torched the Michigan State defense, Stroud struggled early against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Notably, he fumbled the football early in the first quarter, allowing Iowa to return it for a touchdown to take a 7-3 lead. Eventually, Stroud did get back in a groove, to lead Ohio State to a 54-10 lead.
Stroud completed 20-of-30 pass attempts for 286 yards and four touchdowns while throwing one interception.
The Buckeyes quarterback can ill afford to have a bad outing because Hendon Hooker could very well supplant him for the No. 1 ranking.
