3. Matt Ryan

Next up is Matt Ryan (37). The longtime Atlanta Falcons QB was moved to Indianapolis this past offseason to replace Carson Wentz, in exchange for a third-round 2022 draft pick. While no one expected Ryan to be a long-term solution in Indianapolis, most analysts expected his tenure to go beyond week 7. This past week, Frank Reich announced that he’s benching the veteran after a 3-3-1 start. In Sunday’s 10-19 loss to the Tennessee Titans, Ryan passed for 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions but injured his shoulder. The Colts, however, expounded on the decision, making it clear that the move to play Sam Ehlinger had little to do with the injury.

At the start of the season, analysts thought that the Colts had the pieces to make a deep run in the playoffs, but Ryan’s productivity has not come close to past years. Ryan’s 42.0 QBR is only 22nd in the NFL. This one-time MVP certainly doesn’t look like his former self, and with Ryan also on the sidelines for the foreseeable future, it’s safe to say we might not see vintage Matty Ice any time soon–or ever again?
