2. TCU ahead of Alabama would make for one helluva statement right away

Are you watching closely? This isn’t some illusion, but the prestige would certainly speak volumes. There are six undefeated teams in the Power Five, but one continues to trail a one-loss team in the AP Top 25. Of course, we are talking about No. 7 TCU being one spot behind No. 6 Alabama. Although the Crimson Tide still have everything to play for, what if TCU is ranked ahead of them?

It would be a huge boost to the Big 12’s chances of getting a team in. At this point, only the Horned Frogs have a serious shot at it, as every other team in the conference has at least two losses on the season. Alabama still controls its own destiny, but TCU will need some help from the Selection Committee to elevate the Frogs to the same pedigree as the other undefeated teams.

If the Selection Committee puts TCU ahead of Alabama this week, Birmingham might catch on fire.

1. You cannot rule out the possibility that Tennessee procures the No. 1 spot

What if I told you the elephant in the room was not Alabama, but two other rivals of theirs? While there is a chance Michigan could be ranked ahead of Ohio State in the first College Football Playoff rankings, we cannot rule out the possibility that the Tennessee Volunteers get the top spot ahead of the SEC East rival Georgia Bulldogs in the initial rankings. They play each other Saturday…

In short, the Selection Committee is not going to put Ohio State in the No. 1 spot, especially after how clunky it got in Happy Valley vs. Penn State. They could play it safe and go with the defending national champions in the top spot, or they could choose violence. Tennessee certainly has an argument, but it may only be a one-week thing for the Vols. Do they want to choose violence?

Regardless, whoever wins in Athens on Saturday Between the Hedges will be the undisputed No. 1.
