Heisman Trophy Power Rankings: Hendon Hooker overtakes Stroud, Drake Maye makes statement
By Scott Rogust
Last week, C.J. Stroud got off to a rough start against the Iowa Hawkeyes, but bounced back in the second half to lead Ohio State to a blowout victory. The Buckeyes quarterback looked to continue putting up video game numbers against the No. 13 Penn State Nittany Lions.
Ohio State actually trailed 14-13 at halftime. In the third quarter, the only points scored came on a Buckeyes field goal. But in the fourth quarter, Ohio State’s offense contributed to three of their four touchdowns scored.
Stroud completed 26-of-33 pass attempts for 354 yards and one touchdown.
While Stroud still had a relatively solid performance, a fellow quarterback had an even better showing.
The day has finally arrived. Hendon Hooker is now the top-ranked favorite to win the Heisman Trophy on the latest Power Rankings. Hooker had himself a solid performance once again when facng a Top 25 team.
Tennessee entered Week 9 and secured a convincing 44-6 win over the Kentucky Wildcats. Hooker outshined 2023 NFL Draft prospect Will Levis, and it was not even close.
Hooker completed 19-of-25 pass attempts for 245 yards and three touchdowns, while running for 23 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
Two weeks ago, Hooker may have had his Heisman moment by out-dueling Bryce Young in the win over Alabama. He can have another moment next week if he can lead the Volunteers to a huge victory against the Georgia Bulldogs.
