Toasty Buns: What college football head coaches could follow Bryan Harsin?
By John Buhler
What took Jimbo Fisher so long to name Conner Weigman starting quarterback?!
Wins are becoming increasingly expensive by the day in College Station, as Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M Aggies have now dropped four in a row in SEC play. While they did play Ole Miss close, we have to wonder how many more wins Texas A&M would have if he just started Conner Weigman at quarterback from the jump. Weigman’s promise is the best thing A&M has going for it now.
Although for financial reasons Fisher is safe, this is SEC football in Texas. There are plenty of wealthy boosters who would love nothing more than to drill him out of town. The most expensive college football team money can buy may not even go bowling. If the Aggies do not beat Florida at home next week, it may not happen, as they still have to play at Auburn and then finish with LSU.
Five teams were ahead of them in the first AP Poll, but five SEC West teams will be ahead of them.
Another week, another loss for Neal Brown’s reeling West Virginia Mountaineers
A week after Texas Tech rung their bell, West Virginia at least made things interesting at home vs. undefeated TCU. Too bad close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, as Neal Brown’s Mountaineers have stumbled to 3-5 on the season and 1-4 in Big 12 play. Fortunately, they will clash with fellow conference cannon fodder Saturday when they take on nose-diving Iowa State.
While the ‘Eers can definitely win in Ames, their final three games will not be easy. Their easiest game after the Iowa State date would be hosting Oklahoma. After that, they will host Kansas State and then play Oklahoma State in Stillwater. The Mountaineers will need to beat Iowa State and Oklahoma, and then steal one between Kansas State and Oklahoma State to even get to 6-6.
Although the bowl game benchmark is within reach, Brown’s WVU team may not even get to .500.
