Prepare yourselves for absolute chaos in the first College Football Playoff rankings of 2022.

The first College Football Playoff rankings will be out in earnest on Tuesday night, everybody!

While everybody has their leanings as to what the Selection Committee could decide are the 25 best teams in the nation heading into Week 10, we should expect the unexpected. We have used the AP Top 25 Poll as our guiding light for the last several weeks. While it is still a good poll put together by the Associated Press, it does not have the power to send four teams to the playoff.

So grab some tin foil and gloves to embrace your inner Professor Chaos, you Butters Stotch, you!

What if College Football Playoff Selection Committee embraces total chaos?

If the Selection Committee woke up and chose violence today, this would be its top seven teams.

  1. Tennessee Volunteers
  2. Ohio State Buckeyes
  3. Georgia Bulldogs
  4. TCU Horned Frogs
  5. Michigan Wolverines
  6. Clemson Tigers
  7. Alabama Crimson Tide

Putting Tennessee at No. 1 would be a statement. Having Ohio State at No. 2 over No. 3 Georgia would have all of Athens absolutely furious. To make matters even worse, the Selection Committee could have the TCU Horned Frogs leapfrog three teams from No. 7 all the way up to No. 4. Michigan and Clemson are the first two teams out, as Alabama will be begging to be them.

In reality, there is a clear separation between these seven teams and the rest of the FBS. Oregon is probably the closest to this most magnificent seven, but a blowout loss to Georgia in Atlanta doesn’t exactly get them a seat at the table. In short, all six undefeated teams have a claim to make the first four in, while Georgia and Tennessee have the strongest claims for the top spot.

Overall, there is still so much to be decided. Michigan and Ohio State still have to play each other in The Horseshoe at regular-season’s end, while Georgia hosts Tennessee in the biggest game in Sanford Stadium history on Saturday afternoon. Though Clemson and TCU may not be challenged in conference play, Alabama still has Ole Miss and LSU on the road, plus a potential SEC title bout.

Ultimately, this is a TV show and we are all tuning in on Tuesday night to be entertained, dammit!
