Michigan Wolverines fans are beyond outraged regarding their current status in the college football playoff rankings.

If you thought there was bad blood for the Michigan Wolverines in the tunnel melee this past week, the College Football Playoff initial ranks will make it worse.

ESPN dropped the initial CFP rankings on Tuesday with Tennessee at 1, Ohio State at 2, Georgia at 3, and Clemson at 4. Michigan stood at No. 5 over Alabama, and the reaction on Twitter was just how you’d expect Michigan fans to be regarding this news: Outraged!

Michigan fans outraged over their initial placement in College Football Playoff rankings.

As if this group needed any more reason to be mad, now Jim Harbaugh’s team knows exactly what it must do. Win out. That’s all they can do. Because if they win out, that would mean going into Columbus and beating Ohio State, something they had not done since 2001 when Drew Henson and David Terrell ran the show.

Last year, the Wolverines beat the Buckeyes en route to the Big Ten title, ensuring them a spot in the College Football Playoff, before they fell to the eventual champion Georgia in the Orange Bowl. But now’s not the time to think that far ahead. The Wolverines have a date with Nebraska in two weeks, and given what just happened against Michigan State, it’s probably better that the Wolverines take off this week to recover and cool down.

Still, this ranking has to incense the folks in Ann Arbor. It’s going to change for sure, based on what happens this weekend between Tennessee and Georgia, but imagine Michigan’s reaction if Alabama jumps them because the Wolverines didn’t play. The anger in the tunnel was terrible, but it will not compare to the rage the Wolverines would feel for being slighted yet again.
