College Football Playoff: 3 teams hurting themselves with CFP committee
By John Buhler
Ohio State will play with its food and eventually, that is going to cost them badly
Ohio State may be the No. 2 team in the nation this week, but that may not be the case next week. That is because the Buckeyes were nearly upset on the road by Northwestern. Northwestern! It was a 21-7 victory for Ohio State to get to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in Big Ten play, but you cannot play with your food like that vs. a quality team, even if it was in terrible weather. Ohio State can be got.
While the Buckeyes have two victories over ranked teams at the time, Notre Dame is not ranked in Week 10 at 5-3 and Penn State is No. 15 at 6-2 heading into the road date at 3-5 Indiana. In short, Ohio State needs to blowout Indiana in The Horseshoe next week, handle a bowl-eligible Maryland team in The Shell and then hope Michigan does not run over them after Thanksgiving.
Because Ohio State is one of the biggest brands in the country, the Buckeyes will get the benefit of the doubt should they win out. However, a home loss to Michigan or even at Maryland would be devastating. Although they can put up more points than Big Ten West favorite Illinois, a regular-season loss to Michigan may very well end Ohio State’s playoff aspirations. They need to get right.
Ohio State has blowout victories, but few impressive wins to help overcome a potential bad loss.
