Colin Cowherd unbelievably claims that Michigan would be his No. 1 team, and not Georgia.

Either Colin Cowherd is being a Lane Kiffin-level troll on Twitter, or he has one of the worst takes of all time when it comes to Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan football team.

While the Wolverines improved to 9-0 with a 52-17 blowout win of Rutgers in their SHI Stadium, everybody knows the best team in the country right now is Georgia. It is not even close. Georgia, who eviscerated Michigan in the Orange Bowl last January, just wiped the floor with previous No. 1 Tennessee to a stay perfect 9-0 as well. Michigan has no wins that come even one bit close to this.

Michigan was No. 5 last week and will get inside the top three, but did Cowherd even watch CBS?

Either this is pure and undeniable satire or Cowherd just unleashed a mind-bogglingly bad take.

Colin Cowherd favors Michigan over Georgia because, of course, he does

Although last year’s Orange Bowl peeling will not be factored into Tuesday’s rankings, we all remember what happened in Miami Gardens last January. While Georgia and Michigan have been essentially top-six teams throughout the season, there is no comparison. Georgia has the two best wins of any team in the country right now: Tennessee at home by 14 and blowing out Oregon.

Come Tuesday evening, Georgia will be the new No. 1, which they should have been in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, with wins over the new No. 5 in Tennessee and the new No. 6 in Oregon. Michigan’s best win is at home over division rival Penn State, a team that has two losses on the season already. The other big factor is Michigan’s non-conference is absolutely laughable.

The Wolverines played Colorado State, Hawaii and UConn in their first three games of the season. While national independent UConn is one win away from rare bowl eligibility, Colorado State and Hawaii are a combined 4-15 overall and a combined 3-7 in Mountain West play. Because Michigan played a Charmin soft non-conference schedule, the Selection Committee will ding them for that.

Besides scheduling Group of Five cannon fodder in the non-conference, Michigan has done nothing wrong. The Wolverines are legit. They may run roughshod over an Ohio State defense that cannot stop the run in The Horseshoe over Thanksgiving. Michigan has a great chance at getting back to Indianapolis and making it back into the College Football Playoff as a top-two overall seed.

However, there is no debate as to who should be No. 1. Georgia got all but one first-place vote in the latest AP Top 25 Poll. In fact, the only other first-place vote went to Ohio State, who was still 74 total points behind Georgia. Michigan is an additional 45 votes back of Ohio Sate at No. 3. Keep in mind the AP Poll had Georgia No. 1 last week before the Selection Committee chose violence…

Ultimately, we may get a College Football Playoff rematch between the Wolverines and Dawgs. They could meet in the national semifinals again or for the whole shebang in the national title bout. But with that in mind, Georgia would be easily a multi-touchdown favorite over Michigan on a neutral-site. Michigan is a great program, but Georgia is the new favorite to win it all this season.

In time, Cowherd could be right, but after Week 10 could not be worse timing for this awful take.
