College Football Playoff: 3 teams helped the most by Alabama, Tennessee, Clemson losses
By John Buhler
An undefeated TCU makes the playoff, but the Horned Frogs could afford a loss
Without question, the biggest beneficiary of Alabama, Clemson and Tennessee all losing has to be TCU. With Clemson and Tennessee suffering their first losses of the season and Alabama sustaining its second, TCU is one of only four undefeated teams left entering Week 11. Having the Crimson Tide essentially out of it helps the Horned Frogs considerably on their big quest to get in.
Yes, if TCU wins out and gets to Arlington undefeated, the Frogs are making the playoff with a Big 12 Championship win. Everybody has known that for a while, but they may now not be crossed off with a loss in Big 12 play, or potentially in the conference title bout. They were No. 7 last week, and it is going to be very hard for the Selection Committee to not have them inside of the top four.
Although the SEC, and maybe the Big Ten, can get two teams in, the Clemson loss to Notre Dame really hurts the ACC. The winner of Clemson vs. North Carolina in Charlotte may get in, but TCU will have played nine conference games in a relatively strong Big 12. Ultimately, TCU does not have the guys to hang with Georgia or Ohio State, but 13-0 is 13-0, and a TCU 12-1 may not be a bad one.
TCU may need two more undefeated teams to fall, being only one of four left is very big for them.
