9. Oregon falls to Oregon State, Washington then loses the Apple Cup to Wazzu

So we know that 10-1 USC will be one of the teams playing in the Pac-12 championship, but what about the other team? With Utah losing to Oregon, the Utes are essentially out of it. Therefore, the two potential opponents for the Trojans would be either Oregon or Washington. The Ducks would get to Las Vegas with a win over Oregon State or a Washington loss to Wazzu in the Apple Cup.

Since the Beavers have been a top 25 team throughout much of this season, they could definitely beat arch rival Oregon. Although the Huskies have been the better team over the Cougars this season, Washington State lives to spoil arch rival Washington’s seasons. So you know what? Why not let little brother win these games to cause anxiety for the Utes with the Ducks still getting in?

USC still makes the playoff with two more wins on the season, but let’s let the Trojans sweat a bit.

8. Iowa State stomps Frogs’ perfect season, but Matt Campbell leaves anyway

After winning in absolutely bonkers fashion over arch rival Baylor in Waco, it would be such a shame if TCU slipped up at home to a sub-.500 Iowa State team this weekend. TCU may still get into the College Football Playoff with a Big 12 Championship victory anyway, but why leave that to chance? Iowa State has had a terrible season, but Matt Campbell is still an excellent head coach.

Although TCU has made a living this season by winning games in dramatic fashion by the skin of their teeth, Iowa State could conceivably end the Horned Frogs’ bid at regular-season perfection if the Cyclones muddy it up a bit in a low-scoring affair in Forth Worth. Even with an upset win over TCU on Saturday, it may be enough for Nebraska to decide to hire as Campbell its next head coach.

This would be one of those scenarios where even the winning team ultimately loses big in the end.

7. Texas dares to be back, beats Baylor and gets help from Sunflower Showdown

While Kansas State controls its destiny to meet TCU in a Big 12 title bout rematch, there is still a pathway for Texas to crash the Arlington party. Should the Longhorns beat Baylor this weekend, coupled with a Kansas victory over K-State in the Sunflower Showdown, guess who gets to play for a Power Five conference championship now? A big win over TCU and Texas would … be back?!

Although TCU would probably clean Texas’ clock in a rematch this go-around after playing with its food during their regular-season meeting, nothing would add more gasoline to the hype train fire that is Texas football than the Longhorns finessing their way into a conference championship game they have no real business playing in. Then again, it is #AllGasNoBrakes for Steve Sarkisian.
