The worst possible outcome that Mets fans could envision is seeing deGrom sign with the Atlanta Braves. Come on, no fan wants to see their favorite team’s star player sign in division with a rival.

Atlanta already hurt New York fans this year. The Braves swept the Mets in a pivotal end-of-season series that helped them take the NL East title away from them. As a result, the Braves got a first-round bye, while the Mets had to battle the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card, ending in their elimination.

The Braves are in really good position to make a move like this, as young stars Ronald Acuna. Jr., Michael Harris II, and Spencer Strider are under contract on relatively affordable contracts (each $100 million or under). That could allow them to make a splash signing to further help their chances of winning another World Series title.

While the Braves have the likes of Strider, Max Fried, and Kyle Wright, they could really stand to add a top-tier starter to really round out and bolster the rotation. That will certainly help them in what will become a tough battle for the NL East against the Mets and Phillies.
