College Football Playoff rankings 2022: Projected Week 14 Top 25 after Michigan dominates Ohio State, LSU and Clemson lay eggs
Projected College Football Playoff rankings after Week 13: No. 2-1
2. Michigan Wolverines
The bulletin board in Ann Arbor must have been absolutely overflowing with material for Jim Harbaugh to point out to his players ahead of The Game between the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes. True, Michigan’s non-conference schedule was quite weak. True, they’d struggled against the likes of Maryland and Illinois. But when the lights were brightest on Saturday in Columbus, J.J. McCarthy and this team showed their true colors.
In a game that was honestly eerily similar to the rivalry matchup last year, the first half between these two was tight with Michigan seemingly feeling the absence of Blake Corum, who tried to play through injury but was clearly not himself. But McCarthy played his best collegiate game yet while the defense stepped up and shut down C.J. Stroud and Co. And now, the Wolverines have a perfect regular season, will face Purdue to win the Big Ten and have seemingly locked up their spot in the College Football Playoff.
1. Georgia Bulldogs
If you only watched the first half of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate, you might be wondering how the Georgia Bulldogs are the No. 1-ranked team in college football. After all, this was an undefeated team going up against a Georgia Tech team that has struggled mightily for most of the season. But then if you watched the second half, it was clear why the defending national champions are favorites to repeat that feat.
Georgia outscored the Yellow Jackets 27-7 in the second half with the only score allowed coming in the final three minutes of garbage time with the game already out of hand (and on a trick play at that). The Dawgs look to be a team that has a switch they can flip at any moment while Kirby Smart also tries not to show too many of his cards with the Playoff looming. It might not be pretty against inferior competition, but the way they can turn it on and dominate should scare the rest of the CFP field.
